Karina Busquets

Karina is a Cornwall-based Brazilian visual artist and MA Fine Art student with a post-grad in research (emphasis in semiotics), a BA in Communication and a background as an illustrator. Karina has published Children's books in Brazil and America and participated in exhibitions internationally.

‘My practice embraces my cultural background and I am interested in exploring and reflecting on the personal concept of belonging and the shifting sense of home. From my perspective, I invite an audience into my context through my art. My artwork represents personal responses based on drawing mainly with different textiles materials, including fabric, yarn and threads and explores different techniques. The textural materiality presented in my practice stimulates various
senses that fascinate me.’

‘My latest project was a research-based collaboration approached as a dialogue with a group of participants. I focused on researching myself in relation to others living similar experiences as Brazilian immigrants, finding the intersections to be able to build a narrative. The project explored objects and emotional aspects brought in each migration journey, connecting with culture, personal symbols and religious syncretism, resulting in a solo exhibition in Cornwall.’
