Eva Barkardóttir
Eva Barkardóttir is an Icelandic visual artist working between London and Reykjavík.
With a BA in Fashion Design, textiles play a key role in her practice. Through her part time job in a plant shop in South London, botany has also become a strong source of inspiration.
In her practice, Eva follows her obsession with plants and drapery creating installations, video, paintings and photography prints. There is an enquiry into a fictitious future world where everything seems (mostly) normal at first glance but something eerie or sinister is lurking just out of sight. I aim to explore the relationship of performance to the natural world, through the futile process of seeking to possess and control, but mostly failing. Often challenging conventions associated with “ritual”, “witchcraft”, “spiritual capitalism”, and our relationship to the materials around us.
